The Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm is proud to announce the addition of attorney Alexander Elegudin and the launch of a new practice area focused on Elder Law and Estate & Wills Planning. This expansion strengthens our mission to help people navigate life after spinal cord injury while continuing to build a firm shaped by lawyers who live with spinal cord injuries themselves. Alex sustained a traumatic spinal cord injury in college. Like so many Americans, it was a car accident that rendered him a quadriplegic. And it was navigating structural barriers in society that drew him toward disability rights law.
At the Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm we are excited to embrace Alex’s passion. Our partners share that vision: Life should be accessible for everyone. Rather than normalize barriers in education, transportation, health care and public life, our firm is committed to holding responsible parties accountable.
Alex says that limitations exist for people with disabilities like spinal cord injury, not because of disability, but inaccessibility. When you live with disability you see it as the civil rights issue that it is. That’s why Alex became committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have the tools, access, and support necessary to live full, self-directed lives.
Alex pursued his legal education at Hofstra University School of Law. As a disability rights attorney, he has spent his career in the corner of those who live with the unnecessary limitations imposed by society.
What does real inclusion look like to Alex? It’s more than individual support. It’s systemic accountability and policy reform.
Alex has held accessibility and policy roles with major public agencies, working against barriers in transportation with the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He served as Assistant Director in Columbia University’s Disability Services Office, supporting students with disabilities and advocating for institutional change.
Check out Alex’s nonprofit, Wheeling Forward, dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through adaptive sports and mobility support. You’ll find him helping others reconnect with independence and live more quality lives on wheels.
At the Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm Alex will be focusing on estate planning. He has grown increasingly passionate about Elder Law and special needs planning, working with individuals with disabilities and their families to put the right legal, financial, and support structures in place over the long term.
It’s all about securing independence for people with disabilities so they can focus on life.
Alex and his wife share a young daughter. He has lived in Brooklyn nearly his entire life and feels deeply connected to the community. Welcome Alex!
