On Saturday, May 9, The Trial Lawyers Association of Washington, D.C. (TLA-DC) awarded the Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm’s founder Kelley Brooks Simoneaux with the Sandra H. Robinson Women’s Caucus Award.
Kelley received this recognition at the TLA-DC’s Annual Awards Dinner at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. She was also formally sworn in as the organization’s Secretary.
Established by the TLA-DC Women’s Caucus in 2011, the Women’s Caucus Award is named in honor of Sandra H. Robinson– a highly regarded personal injury and medical malpractice attorney at The Cochran Firm of Washington, D.C. She made history as the first woman to serve as President of the organization.
Kelley knows about making history. In founding the Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm she made legal history too– as the first woman with a spinal cord injury in the United States to found and lead a law firm dedicated entirely to helping individuals navigate catastrophic injury.
The Sandra H. Robinson Women’s Caucus Award is reserved for attorneys who advocate fiercely on behalf of injured women and children. The award champions the advancement and professional development of women trial lawyers in order to build a more inclusive trial bar.
Kelley sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 16. She went on to graduate from high school, earn a degree in political science and attend law school at the University of Tennessee College of Law. Kelley knows what it’s like to be a Plaintiff in a lawsuit. She decided to commit her life to helping others who have been catastrophically injured from the negligence of others.
Kelley began her practice in Atlanta, Georgia working at prominent plaintiff’s firms focused on catastrophic injuries and product liability. After moving to Washington, DC, she opened The Spinal Cord Injury Law Firm to create a nationally focused law firm.
Since then, she’s represented hundreds of individuals with spinal cord injuries as they navigate the process of seeking justice.
We are so proud to see Kelley recognized alongside so many incredible leaders and advocates in the legal community.
Congratulations, Kelley, on this well-deserved honor!
